Douglas MacLatchy ~ CEO

Amica Leadership - Headshot of Doug MacLatchy

Drawing on more than 30 years of leadership experience in senior living, finance, and corporate real estate, Doug MacLatchy leads the executive team as CEO of Amica Senior Lifestyles. Under Doug’s stewardship, Amica has grown from a start-up to a highly valued senior living brand with 32 residences, over 5,000 employees, and another 12 residences under construction.

Doug began his mission to make senior living better for seniors when he and Robert Ezer, with the backing of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, founded BayBridge Senior Living in 2010. After acquiring Amica Mature Lifestyles in 2015, they amalgamated the two companies to form Amica Senior Lifestyles. In doing so, they changed the retirement business model to focus on enriching seniors’ lives by developing purpose-built residences that provide excellent amenities, hospitality, and personalized care that adapts to residents’ evolving needs. Thanks to industry-leading occupancy success and ongoing growth in opening multiple new locations per year, Amica is Canada’s leading owner, operator, and developer of senior lifestyles residences.

Doug has held senior leadership roles at two Canadian banks, two senior living companies, and three integrated real estate businesses. He proudly founded two of these entities. Doug began working in senior living in 2000 with Sunrise Senior Living. In 2004, he headed up the initial public offering of Sunrise Senior Living Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT); he held the role of CEO of Sunrise REIT from its inception to its successful sale in 2007, when it sold for $2.5 billion, giving investors an internal rate of return (IRR) of 37%.

His vision for enriching the lives of seniors — by creating a premium, personalized experience with discerning care — sets the standard for all new Amica builds.

Doug holds a Masters of Business Administration from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
