Valerie Owen possesses extensive knowledge, skills and leadership practices shaped from her hands-on experiences within the hospitality industry. With more than 25 years of experience in human resources, she is an expert in recruitment and performance management.

Val joined Amica in 2015 as the Vice President of Human Resources. In 2018, she was promoted to the position of Chief People Officer. Val is Amica’s leader in developing workplace and brand culture, where she oversees talent management and acquisition, compensation, training and development, and labour relations. She is passionate about championing a healthy, happy environment where team members nourish enriching careers serving seniors.

Previously, Val was National Human Resources Director at McDonald’s Canada. She has also held senior roles at Cara Operations Ltd., including Vice President, People Development.

Val earned her Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Guelph.

She is active in a number of charities, having volunteered for the Alzheimer’s Society and Sick Kids. She co-led a charity golf tournament to raise funds for Dreams Take Flight and walked in the Relay for Life in honour of her grandmother and father.
