Seniors are among the most financially vulnerable members of our society. In 2003, we established the Amica Helping Hands Charity, a registered Canadian charity, to support Canadian seniors in need by providing them with the goods, funds and services they need to thrive.
Amica residents and team members fundraise throughout the year for the Amica Helping Hands Charity. Many residents sell their handmade crafts and donate their artwork for auction to raise money for the charity. In addition, the charity receives corporate sponsorship from valued partners across the country.
Delivering holiday comfort
Every December, Amica residents and team members fill baskets to the brim with non-perishable foods, a warm blanket and gift certificates for local grocery stores and pharmacies. In many cases, the baskets contain lovingly hand-knit items created by Amica residents. The gift baskets are delivered to low-income seniors with the assistance of local charities. Most recipients live alone and in poverty. The basket may be the only gift they receive over the holidays and throughout the year.
Amica Helping Hands also provides funds to not-for-profit organizations across Canada for initiatives that improve the quality of life and health of seniors in need.
This annual event was held on November 7, 2019 at the Omni King Edward hotel in Toronto. Thanks to our generous corporate sponsors, this inspiring dinner raised over $540,000 in support of our mandate.
